We begin.Constructing the shelter.Six burials from the Roman period (1st-3rd century A.D) had been dug into the fill of Building 3 and Space 88. Five of these were removed in 1997, These graves provided a valuable window into the underlying Neolithic fill of Building 3, such as the collapsed house roof. We focused on the excavation of the post-occupational building fill and midden in the southern half of Building 3 and the spectacular remains of the collapsed roof in its north. In the northern end debris from the closing ceremonies of the building was discovered on the latest plastered floors: in the form of large animal bones - possibly remains of a feast .... more...

Neolithic burials, an adult male under the northeast platform, three intersecting burials under the north-central platform. Under the fill and roof we could define the partitioning features of Building 3: screen wall with two small walls separating a narrow west room (Space 158) from the larger room (Space 86) with its five platforms. More debris from the closing ceremonies of the building were discovered: two skulls in the middle of the latest floor next to a bucranium which might have fallen from the collapsed roof. Under the Central Floor area we found two children’s burials and between them the earliest burial that was of az baby - the only burial with grave-goods. We started aerial photography with Michael and Jason suspended from the shelter rafters with climbing equipment.... more...

Excavating the earliest floors and ovens and storage areas of Building 3, now one big room (space 201). The earliest floors were constructed on midden (garbage). We excavated the three small rooms south of Building 3 and discovered nine burials in space 87.... more...

Study of the walls, the technology of building materials and house construction, including the properties of bricks and mortar. We finally sorted out the sequence of the Building 3 walls in relation to neighboring cells and buildings. Archive Report 2004

The place that had contained Building 3, after a closing ceremony, was filled in to surface level. Its south wall and the three small rooms (Spaces 87,88, and 89) were conserved before infilling, since they might at some future time need to be re-examined.
